Information on Memberships

The Sirius Network is a membership-based organisation, whose members can be any physical or moral person provided that they are not for profit companies and that share the Network’s mission, purposes and the Statutes of Association. For-profit companies cannot be member of the Network. However, the Board might decide to cooperate with them on a particular initiative.

Any candidate willing to become a member should send a written letter and an application form duly completed to the Board through Secretariat with a formal letter addressed to the President of the Board, before the 31st of March explaining their interest in joining the Network, why their priorities and mission are compliant with the Network’s. The Board approves application by majority vote of all members. The application form will be available on demand.

Admission of new members are decided by the General Assembly, upon preliminary approval of the Board.

All members must comply with the Statutes of the Network, decisions, directives and rules formulated or accepted by the Network.

All members pay an annual membership fee that depends on the membership category they belong to. The fees (together with the budget proposal) are decided every year, for the next one, by the General Assembly upon proposal of the Board.

The Network has three categories of members with different rights and obligations: Full Members, Affiliated Members and Observers. SIRIUS counts currently 31 members in 18 European countries.

o   Full Members:

Full Members can be any non-profit organisation at any level of governance, any university or any research centre. Full Members are invited and can participate to any event organised by the Network. Full Members are expected to attend (or be validly represented) the General Assembly where they have the right to speak and vote. They have the right to propose a candidate from their employees or their board members to become a member of the Board. Full members have to pay the full amount of membership fee that depends on the budget approved by the General Assembly for the following year.

o   Affiliated Members:

Affiliated members can be any non-profit organisation at any level of governance, any university, any research centre, any individual expert or practitioner in the field of migrant education. Affiliated Members are invited and can participate to any event organised by the Association. They have speaking rights but cannot vote at the General Assembly. Affiliated Members cannot propose a candidate to be appointed as member of the Board. They must pay a reduced amount of the membership fee, depending on the budget approved by the General Assembly for the following year.

o   Observers:

Observers can only be public authorities at local, regional, national European or international level. Observers are invited and can participate to any event organised by Sirius. They have the right to speak, cannot vote at the General Assembly and cannot propose a candidate to be appointed as members of the Board. They do not pay membership fee. Public authorities will be consulted regularly through ad hoc online and live meetings.
