Peer Learning Activity: Zagreb 2024

The third Peer Learning Activity (PLA) of the SIRIUS 3.0 project, Supporting the Mental Health and Well-being of Migrant Learners, took place in Zagreb, Croatia, in October 2024. The PLA explored how education systems and school communities can support the mental health and socio-emotional well-being of refugee and migrant students.

Hosted by FFE and co-organised with local partners, the event involved representatives from six countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Participants discussed practices related to trauma-informed pedagogy, social and emotional learning (SEL), multilingualism and community engagement. They also visited schools and NGOs working with migrant learners and exchanged insights on national frameworks and local responses.

The PLA emphasized the importance of psychosocial safety, holistic support, and culturally sensitive approaches, especially in contexts marked by displacement and war-related trauma. The visit contributed to SIRIUS’s wider advocacy for inclusive, whole-child-centred education.
