SIRIUS Annual Policy Conference 2024

SIRIUS Policy Conference 2024: Tackling Inequality through Whole-School and Systemic Approaches

On 30 May 2024, SIRIUS hosted its Annual Policy Conference at the Representation of Lower Saxony to the European Union in Brussels, bringing together over 70 stakeholders from across Europe, including policymakers, researchers, educators, youth representatives and civil society actors.

The conference focused on systemic and school-level strategies to reduce educational inequality, with special attention to children and youth with a migrant background. Discussions were informed by national experiences, EU policy developments, and insights from the SIRIUS 3.0 Peer Learning Activities.

The event also highlighted the SIRIUS Watch 2024 report, which mapped the availability and quality of data on migrant education in 14 EU member states. The findings underscored the need for more harmonised, disaggregated, and actionable data to shape inclusive and evidence-based education policies.

The conference featured keynote speeches, national case studies, and interactive exchanges that promoted mutual learning and reinforced SIRIUS’s role as a European platform for policy dialogue in migrant education.
